Read the Label

The most useful topical-product label questions are surprisingly basic: what is the active ingredient, how much is present, what is the stated purpose, what are the warnings and how should the product be used?

Drug Facts Basics

FDA OTC Drug Facts labeling identifies active ingredient(s), purpose, uses, warnings, directions, inactive ingredients and other information. Those fields are more informative than front-label marketing alone.

Active Ingredient vs Highlighted Ingredient

A marketing page can highlight an ingredient without establishing that it is a clinically validated active ingredient at a studied concentration.

Concentration Matters

“Contains ingredient X” is not equivalent to “contains the same concentration tested in study Y.” Unknown concentration increases uncertainty when transferring research.

FDA Registered Is Not FDA Approved

Registration or facility inspection should not be presented as proof that a product itself has been FDA approved or clinically validated. Regulatory terms must be used precisely.

How to Read “27-in-1”

A multi-ingredient marketing phrase does not prove 27 active ingredients, 27 therapeutic doses or 27 clinically demonstrated benefits.
